After three years in the planning and design stages the new double position thermoformed Whitehall Spirit® Tango 17™ is in production. The Tango 17™ was featured at the Seattle International Boat Show from January 29 through February 6, 2010. Many have been shipped to new owners. We have also rowed the boat extensively and tested it in the new Whitehall Spirit® Rowing Club where they are used daily. With two aboard it's a blast even in a stiff wind. The highly successful Whitehall Spirit® Classic 17 was used as the base model for this new design. The construction of the Tango 17™ is identical to the Solo 14™ featuring thermoformed co-polymer plastic for the hull and deck. A complex thermoformed inter-deck grid under the cockpit welds the hull and deck together. The inter-deck stiffens the boat substantially while also absorbing the rowing stresses on the sliding track and footstop supports. This boat is built to last!
The boats features are identical to the Solo 14™ in regard to slide seats, footstops, outriggers etc. Just click over to the Tango 17™ features page. It also has two fixed seats similar to the one in the Solo 14™ that stow into recessions located in the cockpit floor between the slide seat track supports. This enables the boat to carry up to five people and fixed seat style rowing if needed.
All of the Solo 14™ options are available for the Tango 17™ but prices are adjusted for items such as Sunbrella® boat covers that are larger, battens because there are four, and the stainless keelstrip which is longer. See the pricing menu.
At less than half the price of one of the handcrafted fiberglass and teak Classic Whitehall Spirit® 17 double slide models this boat is much more affordable. The Tango 17™ enables couples, friends and families to get out rowing having fun and getting fit together, or, someone to go rowing alone. It’s fantastic for taking people out who are new to rowing. They are able to quickly learn the finer points about slide seat rowing with sculling oars when they are sitting in the same boat as their instructor.
